Resting on a hilltop overlooking the mediterranean sea and the islet of Fifla,
the Hagar Qim temple lies some 2km south-west of the Maltese village of Qrendi.
The temple of Hagar Qim excavated for the first time in 1839, dates from the
Ggantija phase (c.3600-3200BC). Items excavated here such as the famous 'Fat
Lady' statue are on display at the National Museum of Archaelogy in Valletta. |

The Ggantija temples in Xaghra, Gozo are is one of the most important
archaelogical sites in the Maltese islands. As with Hagar Qim the origins of
this temple date back to the Ggantija phase.
Excavated in 1827 the megalithic complex consists of two temples surrounded by a
massive boundary wall.
